Harissa Beef Pita with Feta Cheese

Harissa Beef Pita with Feta Cheese

Bold, spicy harissa-infused beef piled onto warm Pita and topped with tangy feta and a drizzle of harissa tahini for a flavor-packed, effortless meal. Recipe by Edieoeats.

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 Atoria's Family Bakery Traditional Pitas, cut in half
  • 1 lb extra lean ground beef
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small white onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup shaved carrots
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 1 - 2 tablespoons Shawarma spice blend
  • 1 Goya Sazon Culantro y Achiote Packet
  • 1 tablespoon double-concentrated tomato paste
  • 1-2 tablespoons of (Mild) Harissa Sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Mediterranean Herb Feta Cheese Crumbles
  • 1/2 cup lettuce or spinach, chopped finely
  • Kosher Salt, to taste
  • 1-2 tbsp spicy harissa tahini
  • 1 tbsp curly parsley, chopped

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onions, minced garlic, and shaved carrots, cooking until onions are translucent.
  3. Add the extra lean ground beef to the skillet. Break it apart with a spoon and cook until browned.
  4. Stir in cumin, Shawarma spice blend, Goya Sazon Culantro y Achiote Packet, and double concentrated tomato paste. Mix well to incorporate the flavors.
  5. Pour in the beef broth and add your favorite pre-made (Mild) Harissa Sauce. Allow the mixture to simmer until the liquid reduces and the flavors meld.
  6. After allowing the beef to simmer for at least 15 minutes, place the Pitas on a baking sheet. Brush them lightly with olive oil.
  7. Spoon the harissa beef mixture onto the Pitas, spreading it evenly.
  8. Sprinkle feta cheese over the top of each Pita.
  9. Bake in the oven for about 5 minutes or until the edges of the Pitas are golden.
  10. Remove from the oven and top with fresh lettuce or spinach.
  11. Drizzle spicy harissa tahini over the Pitas and garnish with chopped cilantro and parsley.
  12. Slice and serve your delicious harissa beef over Pitas with feta cheese. Fold it up and eat each piece like a taco! Enjoy!
